CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "J.C. Newman - Brick House Classic "

Image
About  J.C. Newman Brick House In 1937, Julius Caesar Newman, the founder of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company, introduced the Brick House brand in honor of his family's residence, a brick house located in the Hungarian countryside. This house had the Newman family living on its upper floor and a local tavern on the lower floor. Originally, the earliest Brick House cigars were crafted using Cuban tobacco. Despite facing a decline in popularity, the brand saw a resurgence in 2009 under the leadership of third-generation owners Eric and Bobby Newman. They made the transition to incorporating Nicaraguan tobaccos into their blends. This effort gained recognition, leading to the cigar being named the Best Bargain Cigar of 2009 by Cigar Aficionado.

CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "La Galera Anemoi Zephyrus "

Image
About La Galera  Anemoi In the Dominican Republic, the winds have their own stories to tell. The ancient Greeks called them the Anemoi and gave names to the winds coming from the North, South, East, and West - Boreas, Notos, Eurus, and Zephyrus, respectively. Here, we're going to focus on Zephyrus, the West wind. When Zephyrus blows, it's a sign that rain is on the way. This rain usually comes from the south of Cuba and flows along the coast between the Cordillera Septentrional in the north and the Cordillera Central in the south. These rain clouds are low and can't escape the valley. Before we had fancy tools to predict the weather, the people here knew that when the west wind blew, rain was coming. As the valley gets higher, the rain falls in places like Santiago, Tamboril, and Moca. These cities are important for growing tobacco in the Dominican Republic.

CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "(Cuba) Aliados Original Blend"

Image
About Aliados Aliados, the legendary cigar brand originally created by Don Rolando Reyes in Cuba, continues to evolve with a new identity. Don Rolando, a cigar industry icon with roots tracing back to pre-revolutionary Cuba, produced Aliados cigars in Havana until his factory was seized in the early 1960s. After relocating, Aliados found its home in Honduras in 1990. Today, it thrives in two distinct lines. The first, crafted by Julio Eiroa in Honduras, preserves the original blend perfected by Rolando Reyes. The second, a limited 2022 release by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in the Dominican Republic, showcases a Sumatra wrapper aged for five years. This revival honors the Cuban exiles who pursued their cigar-making dreams outside of Cuba, symbolizing unity within the industry. CigarPursuits Review Appearance & Construction : 13/15 I sampled a torpedo size, with dimensions of 6 x 54. The wrapper, while generally smooth , did display slight imperfections , including a few noticeable crac...

CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "Quai d'Orsay No.52"

Image
About  Quai d'Orsay   In the early 1970s, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, a French official, wanted to boost France's reputation in the tobacco industry, much like its prestige in perfumes, champagne and fashion. To do this, he decided to create a special cigar brand. Recognising Cuba's expertise in cigars, Gilbert Belaubre thought it would be a good idea to collaborate with Cuban cigar makers. So, in 1973, a new cigar brand called "Quai D’Orsay" was established by Cubatabaco exclusively for France, as requested by the French company Seita. The name "Quai d’Orsay" was chosen because it was linked to a famous avenue in Paris where Seita had its offices. This brand was officially registered on February 23, 1972. For more than 40 years, Quai D’Orsay was a hidden treasure in the world of Cuban cigars, mainly available to experts in the French market. It became successful with special editions and unique products made just for the French market.

CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "Nub Cameroon 460"

Image
About Nub cigar Nub Cigars are quite unique in the world of cigars. Most cigars take a while to reveal all their different flavors, especially the bigger ones like Toros and Churchills. Oliva Cigars wanted to create something different—a cigar that would show its flavors right from the start and keep them throughout the smoke. So, they came up with the Nub —a short and chubby cigar that promised a rich and flavorful smoking experience, just like a regular cigar, even though it's shorter. Surprisingly, Nub cigars actually have as much or even more tobacco than a typical robusto, which means they should burn just as long as a regular cigar, giving you a satisfying and lasting smoke.
