CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "(Cuba) Aliados Original Blend"
About Aliados
Aliados, the legendary cigar brand originally created by Don Rolando Reyes in Cuba, continues to evolve with a new identity. Don Rolando, a cigar industry icon with roots tracing back to pre-revolutionary Cuba, produced Aliados cigars in Havana until his factory was seized in the early 1960s.
After relocating, Aliados found its home in Honduras in 1990. Today, it thrives in two distinct lines.
The first, crafted by Julio Eiroa in Honduras, preserves the original blend perfected by Rolando Reyes. The second, a limited 2022 release by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in the Dominican Republic, showcases a Sumatra wrapper aged for five years. This revival honors the Cuban exiles who pursued their cigar-making dreams outside of Cuba, symbolizing unity within the industry.

CigarPursuits Review
Appearance & Construction: 13/15
I sampled a torpedo size, with dimensions of 6 x 54. The wrapper, while generally smooth, did display slight imperfections, including a few noticeable cracks.
Aroma: 14/15
Flavors: 30/35
Upon lighting the cigar, the initial flavors were marked by a pleasant spice with subtle hints of tea and almonds. As i continued smoking, these notes gracefully transitioned into a more sweet profile, characterised by caramel undertones with subtle hints of mint. The richness of the flavors played off each other beautifully, creating a complex profile.
The burn of the cigar was slightly uneven at times. The smoke, while not particularly voluminous, had a light and pleasant texture. What stood out was the refreshing minty undertone that added a unique experience. The ash, on the other hand, was firm and white, holding its shape well throughout the smoke.
Overall Enjoyment: 18/20
In the end, I found myself enjoying the Aliados Original Blend cigar, although I must admit that I'm not a big fan of mint in my cigars. However, this personal preference aside, the cigar offered a rich and harmonious flavor profile that was undeniably inviting.
Conclusion
Considering all aspects of this cigar, I would give it a score of 89, firmly placing it in the "solid" category. While my personal preference led me to be slightly reserved due to the presence of minty notes, it's undeniably a cigar that can be appreciated by aficionados seeking a well-balanced and complex smoking experience. The Aliados Original Blend cigar offers a harmonious blend of flavors and a refreshing smoke that may appeal to a wide range of cigar enthusiasts.
Bonus - Perfect Pairing
An Old Fashioned with its sweet profile, the hints of citrus from the orange peel, complements the flavors of the Aliados Original Blend cigar, particularly the caramel and spice notes.
