CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción"

About Plasencia Alma del Fuego

The Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción is part of the renowned Alma series by Plasencia Cigars, a company with a rich history dating back to 1865. The Plasencia family began their journey in the tobacco industry in Cuba before relocating to Nicaragua and Honduras following the Cuban Revolution. Over the years, Plasencia has become one of the largest tobacco growers in the world, supplying high-quality tobacco to many prominent cigar brands.

The "Alma del Fuego," which translates to "Soul of Fire," is a tribute to the volcanic soils of Nicaragua, particularly the island of Ometepe, where the tobaccos are grown. This unique region, with its nutrient-rich volcanic soil, imparts distinctive flavors and strength to the tobacco. The Alma del Fuego line is celebrated for its bold flavors and complexity, a testament to the rich heritage and expertise of the Plasencia family. Each cigar in the Alma series reflects a deep connection to the earth and meticulous craftsmanship, with Alma del Fuego standing out for its fiery, robust character.

CigarPursuits Review

Appearance & Construction: 15/15

The cigar boasts a very good construction. The Toro was almost closed on the foot, a design choice aimed at keeping the aromas inside. The wrapper is notably smooth and oily, giving it an inviting and luxurious appearance. This meticulous construction ensures a promising smoking experience right from the start.

Aroma: 15/15

Before lighting, the Concepción exudes a chocolaty and sweet aroma from the wrapper. On the cold draw, you can detect notes of pepper and wood, which hint at the complex flavors to come. During the smoke, these aromas become even stronger and more inviting, enhancing the overall sensory experience.

Flavors: 30/35

The Alma del Fuego offers a dynamic and balanced flavor profile from start to finish.

  • Start: The initial draw presents a burst of black pepper and sweet cedar, making for a very good opening.
  • Development: As you continue smoking, the flavors develop into a slightly spicy note, characterized by clove and milky chocolate.
  • Finish: The final third brings in flavors of cashew, more pepper, and a return of the cedar.

Overall, the profile remains well-balanced and engaging throughout, ensuring a non-boring smoking experience.

Burn & Smoke: 15/15

The Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción exhibits excellent smoking characteristics. The burn is even, ensuring a consistent experience from start to finish. The draw is open, providing an easy and satisfying pull with each puff. The ash is very solid and white, indicating high-quality tobacco and construction. Additionally, the cigar produces a lot of smoke with a very enjoyable texture, enhancing the overall smoking experience.

Overall Enjoyment: 19/20

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción. It offers a medium to full strength profile that is both balanced and enjoyable. Compared to the Alma Fuerte Hexagon II, I find this model to be more balanced and enjoyable, with very good construction, even burn, and a harmonious flavor profile. This cigar comes highly recommended for its rich and complex experience.

Conclusion

The Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción is a superb medium to full-strength cigar that delivers a balanced and enjoyable smoking experience. With its smooth, oily wrapper, excellent construction, and complex flavor profile of black pepper, sweet cedar, clove, milky chocolate, and cashew, it stands out as a top-tier choice. The even burn, open draw, and solid white ash further enhance the enjoyment. This cigar is highly recommended, and I rate it 94 out of 100.

Bonus - Perfect Pairing

To complement the balanced and complex flavors of the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Concepción, a Whisky Sour or a Mojito would be excellent choices. The tangy and citrusy notes of a Whisky Sour or the refreshing minty sweetness of a Mojito can enhance the cigar's peppery, chocolaty, and cedar notes, creating a harmonious and enjoyable pairing experience.
