CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "La Flor Dominicana Ligero L - Granú"

About La Flor Dominicana Ligero L - Granú

La Flor Dominicana, established in 1996 in the Dominican Republic by Litto Gomez and Ines Lorenzo, initially produced mild Dominican cigars under the name Los Libertadores. The brand evolved significantly after Gomez started cultivating their own tobacco, focusing on full-flavored blends with Piloto Cubano, Criollo, and Pelo d’Oro varieties. This shift to quality over quantity, alongside innovative shapes like the patented Chisel, marked La Flor Dominicana's transformation into a luxury cigar brand.

La Flor Dominicana Ligero L - Granú, introduced in 2001 by Litto Gomez, is a remarkable cigar within the Ligero portfolio. Known for its large 100-count box, the Granu is distinguished by its Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, estate-grown Dominican Ligero longfiller and binder. This blend results in a full-bodied cigar with a creamy smooth smoke, robust flavor, and aroma. Its unique size, a 6 x 64 Gordo Extra, makes it the largest ring gauge in La Flor Dominicana's line, showcasing a higher priming wrapper than the standard Ligero line.

CigarPursuits Review

La Flor Dominicana Ligero L - Granú

Appearance & Construction: 15/15

This cigar immediately impresses with its construction. The dark chocolate Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper is applied with precision, feeling firm to the touch. The finishes at both the head and foot of the cigar are great.

Aroma: 15/15

The earthy aroma of the wrapper, accompanied by dark chocolate notes, sets high expectations. The cold draw brings forth a blend of woodsy and spicy elements, building anticipation for the flavors to come.

Flavors: 30/35

Upon lighting, the cigar starts with a mix of black pepper and earthy tones, complemented by a subtle honey. Midway, it introduces oak and leather, adding depth to the profile. The finish brings in a bit of bitterness, like coffee, alongside strong pepper flavors.

Burn & Smoke: 14/15

The cigar produces a good amount of aromatic smoke, enhancing the flavor experience. Although the burn requires some adjustments along the way, the ash is white and holds firm.

Overall Enjoyment: 18/20

Overall, the La Flor Dominicana Ligero L-Granú is a full-strength cigar with a well-balanced and complex flavor profile. Despite a slightly bitter end, it was enjoyable. Although I didn't perceive the full strength from it, it was an exceptional smoke.

Conclusion

The La Flor Dominicana Ligero L-Granú is a great choice for those who appreciate a complex and engaging, my rating is 92 out of 100It's a testament to skilled cigar making and offers a rich smoking experience.

Bonus - Perfect Pairing

To complement this cigar, a bold red wine such as a Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec would be ideal. The wine's full body and fruity notes will harmonize with the cigar's spicy and slightly bitter finish, enhancing the overall experience.
