CigarPursuits: Pursuing the "BALMORAL PURO NICARAGUA ROTHSCHILD MASIVO"

About Balmoral Puro Nicaragua Rothschild Masivo

The Balmoral Nicaragua Rothschild Masivo is part of a relatively new range of cigars from Balmoral. Historically, Balmoral cigars were rolled in the Dominican Republic, a practice that continued throughout the Agio period. However, the brand's acquisition by STG, a group owning several factories in the Caribbean and Central America, marked a significant change. This acquisition led to the introduction of the “Nicaragua” edition, which, for the first time, is rolled in Nicaragua. The new range includes the Rothschild Masivo and a Petit Robusto, expanding Balmoral's offerings and showcasing a new direction for the brand.

CigarPursuits Review

Appearance & Construction: 15/15

The Rothschild Masivo immediately commands attention with its 5 x 55 size, dark, veiny, and oily exterior. Its construction is impeccable, showing no soft spots and featuring a well-crafted head and foot. The chocolate wrapper is adorned with reddish-brown highlights, adding to its allure and promising a rich experience.

Aroma: 14/15

Before lighting, the cigar emits a grassy and woody scent from the wrapper, while the cold draw reveals subtle hints of leather and pepper, promising a complex sensory experience.

Flavors: 29/35

The initial draws are dominated by coffee and pepper, evolving into a rich blend of leathery and woody notes. The finish is marked by toasty undertones, with intensified pepper and coffee flavors, offering a dynamic taste profile.

Burn & Smoke: 13/15

The smoke is voluminous and slightly creamy, enhancing the overall experience. However, the burn is uneven, necessitating a couple of touch-ups. The ash is white and firm, indicating good construction but hinting at minor inconsistencies in the burn.

Overall Enjoyment: 18/20

This medium-strength cigar, with its strong and evolving flavors, is best suited for the seasoned smoker rather than a beginner. Despite some burn issues, the cigar offers a satisfying experience.

Conclusion

The Balmoral Nicaragua Rothschild Masivo impresses with its robust flavors and creamy smoke. It demands attention due to its uneven burn, yet overall, it provides a gratifying experience, earning a well-deserved 89/100 (Solid choice).

Bonus - Perfect Pairing

For a harmonious balance to the Balmoral Nicaragua Rothschild Masivo's robust flavors, I recommend pairing it with an aged rum. The rum's inherent sweetness and smoothness can beautifully contrast and complement the strong coffee, pepper, and toasty notes of the cigar. This pairing not only enhances the cigar’s complexity but also adds a layer of luxurious warmth to your smoking experience.
